You're playing the word association game… you hear 'slip dress', you say 'Kate Moss', right? Well, while this slinky classic should definitely be on your SS16 agenda for evening, the 90s classic has major mileage for daytime too.
The fashion world (and us) have gone loco aka crazy for the simple little slip dress + white tee combo. It's like totally #90S! Raise your hand if you grew up with the movie Clueless and with the fashion wisdom that Cher and her girl gang gave us. Oh them 90's...so memorable!

Before there was Will and Grace, Friends, Seinfeld or Sex and the City there was the original squad--The Golden Girls. The sitcom starring Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty which first debuted on air in 1985, is just as relevant now as ever before. I remember watching this TV sitcom when I was a young girl. (fun fact I was born in the year the Golden Girls ended) From the opening theme song to the '80s Miami fashion scene and the plot lines that touched on every topic—things your grandmother didn't usually talk about—it was hard not to fall in love with the silver screen magic that was The Golden Girls. Whether it was the importance of keeping your girlfriends close, living life to the fullest or simply enjoying cheesecake, there was always something to take a way from an episode. So Golden Girls, thank you for being a friend, but also a mentor—here are the golden pieces of wisdom I learned from Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia that still reign true to this day.
In the words of Aretha Franklin;
R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to me R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care, T-C-B. You know what they say, a little restraint and discipline never hurts anybody and when suiting up one has to be femme fatale. Is this the reason behind the popular tuxedo dress trend? Does the fashion world want us to be poised, fierce, powerful and f***ing amazing? Intimidating... "The sun goes down, the stars come out and all that counts is here and now. My universe will never be the same. I'm glad you came." As the sun sets more earlier and my perfect idea of "going out" involves being snug on the sofa, watching a romantic comedy while sipping on a cup of tea is heaven, but never the less when I do go out I want to feel and look glamorous and warm! One thing missing in my winter wardrobe was a white knit. A winter wardrobe wouldn't be complete without at least one oversized chunky knit to bundle up in. Especially since it takes only the coziest sweater to stave off the wintry winds. White knits has been the ultimate winter staple for seasons on end and is particularly a must-have because it doubles as the absolute transitional piece when the cold frost finally melts. The denim dress is making a well-earned fashion comeback, with a nod to the 70’s inspired trend we all love. There is something about denim which really appeals to me and wearing something I feel confident in and I know which is 100% me is very important. Fashion is not just about clothes, fashion is your Armour. Clothes is something you put on but fashion is a language which clothes speak. I get so excited about fashion that sometimes it’s a bit ridiculous. I’ve lost count on how many times my eyes have watered up by seeing a Givenchy or Dior Couture in an exhibition. I always get that OMG moment.
Continuing on from my last blog post, one trend which is sweeping the world at the moment is flare sleeves. Looks like we are stepping back into time when Elvis was the King and it was OK to dress totally ‘disco’ while going to the supermarket. But we can’t live in the past, especially in the fashion stakes. The good thing with fashion is that we can re-invent trends and make it modern with a hint of era. The one thing I am happy to see as a comeback is bell sleeves, effortless, cool and luxurious. Bell sleeves just have that something about them that says ‘peace, man’ to your outfit. Because let’s be honest, we all need some good vibes these days. I’ve always been Parisian at heart in the way I dress. Classic, minimal and sophisticated. I became accustomed to vests and I can now say I am a LOVER of vests. Black, beige, khaki, camel. I love them all. But a white vest is a definite must have for all women and something I was missing in my wardrobe. A white vest is a timeless piece to have, it’s versatile and a staple. Vests just can’t go out of fashion especially when it’s in a colour which won’t go out of fashion. So when we received our Social Networking Vest I knew I needed it in my life. It was love at first sight. At the heart of any Italian family, most people would describe their Nonna as the foundation of their family. I am very fortunate to have two incredible Nonna’s in my life. Both with different personalities and with different stories to tell, the one underlining thing they have in common is the importance of family. I love to dress up and I’ve started to care less about what other people think of what I’m wearing or how “fancy” I look when I pop into the supermarket to buy milk. I can only think of 2 occasions where I have worn sweat pants; to a place I wouldn’t normally go to and where nobody knew who I was. Sure, I felt comfortable in my sweat pants and runners but did it feel like me? That answer would be no. On some days I am all about flats, a nude lip and other days I am in heels, lipstick and a figure hugging dress. But it doesn’t matter how I feel because I always strive to look and feel my best. Not for boys; just for me. Nothing says "I love you" more than these delectable mini cheesecakes. Cute as a muffin and definitely not a muffin, you will be reaching for the mix master faster than you can say "cream cheese" to make these sweet treats.
Like people we also outgrow clothing. I’m not talking about the ‘size’ of the garment per se. I'm referring to the nitty-gritty, the finer details which make fashion not clothing - the fit, colour, style and fabric. Now what I’m going to say next will make me sound like an old sweater in the back of your closet which grandma Gertrude bought you ten million years ago and your reaction was “Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Camel…what an ugly sweater!”
As you get older, you realise that quality over quantity and a Cosmo over cheap vodka is better for you and much more enjoyable. Sure, cheap vodka ticks all the boxes:
Guest Blogger: Kia Grant Written By: Kia Grant FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM @kiagrant We’re in the midst of the summer months here in the land down under and it’s only getting hotter. Hot, you know the kind of hot that makes you want to stay inside under the air-conditioner.The kind of hot that makes you consider a swimsuit as appropriate work attire ;P. The kind of hot that makes your face melt off. IT’S HOT!!! Two crucial components this Wednesday were cappuccinos and stripes. Stripes have become a staple in my wardrobe and when I wear stripes in a different way it becomes more desirable.
I prefer to wear my stripes the same way I like to drink my coffee, chic and relaxed. This style combination is a classic and debonair look. Ok here I go; my 4th attempt to putting pen to paper. I believe in superstitions and I blame my Nonna A for this. Brain washing me since I was a little girl - “don’t sit at a corner of a table otherwise you won’t get married; don’t go under someone’s arm as its bad luck.” The list goes on… But on New Year’s Eve when I snapped open my fortune cookie and read the message I was like...pfft.
My fortune was foretold... If there's one thing summer is doing to me, its's literally making me quite nostalgic over God knows what, and really pushing me towards my sensitive and deeper side, which aside from having me day-dream and having my head in the clouds while bumping into the tress on my way to somewhere! It's fabulous (I'm being sarcastic) Some might say it's the "heat" or the "holiday" season causing this....
Left Behind With Only A Pinapple By Her Side Nothing to fear as she looked out to Azul knowing the waves would carry her away. Azul was untammed like her. A free spirit! Azul waters glistering like diamonds. Last night under moonlight she searched through the crowd hoping to find Blue eyes. He was nowhere to be found, only a letter found near the dunes where they once laid. She was deserted. She had to pick up the shells left behind and start her life all over again. Forgetting his soul reaching eyes, he had a superpower over her like no other, but the Azul waters would help her forget lui.
. As the nascent sunlight caressed her skin promising a new dawn and a new beginning, she entombed her memories of him in thick walled ice. Then abruptly pausing to close her eyes and take a deep breath of dewy air, she was at a standstill only to think of her future from here on in. A future she would mould, build, direct. Then with each stride after that she felt more in charge; in command of her own mind, body and soul. She was a girl walking into her own destiny. A destiny that lay directly in her own hands. Dancing to her own beat of her drum she was carried away with the breeze. “Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they just need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with them." They Called Her Bonita Endless white sand stretched before her. Running. Gripping the lily's she found near the rock. The salty breeze carrying her softly and quickly. Her heart beating like a drum. Not knowing if he was waiting for her on the dunes of the cape. A slave to the golden sun. Bonita they called her! Skin shimmering as her feet pounded to the ground. The finger prints left on Bonita's skin was the map to lui.
Wild blue eyes sparkling in the distance. But it was Bonita's eyes that captured his soul. Her eyes were the colour of milk chocolate edged with a deep forest green. Sometimes the two colours seemed to swirl together like moss creeping over rich soil and when she smiled, both colours ignited with glow dazzling him with the warmth of the deep brown and seductive green dancing around the it's edge. As their eyes met again, he spoke. "It was you I was waiting for." Sandia & La Moda Stylist Motionless, stuck in time, reading.
Stories before her told of the earthly presence of the shells beneath the sand. Spending days on the golden strip. Happy. Drifting away with the breeze. She couldn't be more picture perfect, but nothing could predict what happened next, when the tide came in. Eyes as blue as it was meant to be. Lui. The Story Of La Moda Stylist & Blue
Endless miles of white sand stretch before her. Deserted. Blue water laps hungrily at her ankles. Eyes like diamonds, soul piercing with her charm, her captivating nonchalance. A smile teases on her lips as she dances away, leaving foreigners forever reaching, fingers grasping the salty air, heavy with her sultry masquerade. The sea breeze carries the whisper of a thousand loves before, her pull is unabating. Her eyes a maelstrom of ice blue, secrets and longing; a sea temptress tangled in ethereal sophistication. Bathed in cool, glossy waters of blue, she captivates and indulges the attention of her lovers. Forever a goddess by the sea. Forever a jewel of the blue ocean. Derby Day Style Guide The first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival sees the crowd come out in their black and white best. Derby Day, known as the day for racing purists, traditionally sees a monochromatic dress code, encouraging race goers to keep it simple and chic in either black or white or a combination of both. If the simple colour palette leaves you wanting more from your look, try experimenting with textures and fabrics to bring something special to your outfit.
On Tuesday 3rd of November, the race that stops the nation will be held at Flemington Racecourse.
Yes Stylers, the race that stops the nation will be off and running soon. Are you planning to be at the trackside in Flemington, at a fancy lunch or at a low-key gathering with your girlfriends? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this post is for you. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing the dos and don’ts with the race day dress code and share ideas on how to put your outfit together. Panna Cotta, literally translates as cooked cream in Italian, it's a traditional Italian dessert that is made with cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and gelatine. Panna Cotta is one of my ideal desserts: it’s very easy and quick to make and it can be made ahead of time. Overall it's a crowd pleaser.
The coolest shade this season is teal and it's all about texture and curve embracing material. Wearing this hue won't just get you head turns, it will make you center of attention.
Sometimes we just need one item that can change our wardrobe....one item which is unique, chic and versatile......I introduce you to the PANARAMA CAPE....
Let’s be honest: Getting dressed in the dead of winter is not easy especially when the aim is to stay warm and look cool.
Many people get stumped when it comes to building the perfect winter outfit and it often has less to do with not having the right items but more to do with knowing how to put them together, |
