MODA SQUAD
I love to dress up and I’ve started to care less about what other people think of what I’m wearing or how “fancy” I look when I pop into the supermarket to buy milk. I can only think of 2 occasions where I have worn sweat pants; to a place I wouldn’t normally go to and where nobody knew who I was. Sure, I felt comfortable in my sweat pants and runners but did it feel like me? That answer would be no. On some days I am all about flats, a nude lip and other days I am in heels, lipstick and a figure hugging dress. But it doesn’t matter how I feel because I always strive to look and feel my best. Not for boys; just for me. Fashion is a form of self-expression and everyone has a particular “look” or as the French say “regarde.” Every morning when I open my wardrobe to choose an outfit or decide what I’m going to wear I ask myself “who do I want to be today?” Every morning I answer “me,” happy, healthy, successful, creative and willing to try new things in life like wearing a jumpsuit. To be honest the very thought of wearing a jumpsuit frightened me. Why? Because to me wearing a jumpsuit felt lazy as I have been so used to wearing separates or dresses. I believed a jumpsuit wouldn’t look good on me until I tried one on, and oh boy, I was wrong! Over time, jumpsuits have gone from drab to fab and the one thing I’ve learned is that that every woman should own a jumpsuit. Nothing is sleeker than a black culottes’ style jumpsuit. I wore our Off Duty Paintsuit to a team meeting overlooking the esplanade. Not only is this style flattering on most body shapes as it defines your waist and elongating your legs, but it’s also a fail-safe way to dress up for both daytime or a night out. I like to get the most out of my clothes, especially now in autumn. With winter around the corner, I look for pieces which I can wear now and layer later. A general rule to wearing a black jumpsuit while the sun is still shining is to let the jumpsuit do all of the talking. Keep accessories simple, for example a bohemian bag and bold sunglasses. Turn your jumpsuit into a night outfit by adding heels and a bolder colour of lipstick. For cooler days add a black biker jacket, a coat or even a knit jumper. Top of your look with ankle boots for effortless layering. I now have an affinity for jumpsuits and I have chronicled my love of all things one-piece. I guess it’s true what Carrie Bradshaw said in SATC “I like my money where I can see it.... Hanging in my closet.” Well, not all of it. “The biggest challenge of life is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else.” Always With Style, Xoxo A.
